ECWS-McQueen students planned a special thank-you lunch for the West School Building Project workers.

Little did we know, when this event was planned, that we’d end up in an extreme deep freeze.  It can be hard to keep your spirits up when you’re in the middle of a cold snap like the one we just experienced this January. Hitting the -50s with the windchill was hard on the construction workers who are so dedicated to their trade and our tight timeline.  So this special event came at a great time … the Hawaiian theme was perfect!

Step one, a bottle drive to raise money to buy the supplies and food for the lunch!  It was also a great time for a little math practice.  The students counted and sorted all the bottles and cans.

After a lot of prep and set up by the students, the day of the lunch arrived! The walls were beautifully decorated and it was all smiles as the construction workers filed into the school on a well-deserved lunch break.  They each even received a handmade thank you card!

Students helped with serving and as emcee’s throughout the event.

While everyone enjoyed their food the K-3s provided entertainment in the form of a couple of songs!

You could see and feel energy of appreciation from the construction workers and the students were so excited to say Thank You to them in this special way.

Often the “client” is largely unknown to the site workers and vice-versa so this lunch was a beautiful way to bring everyone together.

Check out some video from the event below … hear which songs the children sang!
