On September 25, 2025, Edmonton Christian High School gathered for a special Interactive Chapel that put faith into action in a tangible and inspiring way.
Our school-wide theme is Play Your Role in God’s Story. Within that larger theme, this chapel focused specifically on the Fruit of the Spirit as students explored what it means to live out their faith with love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
The chapel partnered with the Pregnancy Care Centre (PCC), a local organization that walks alongside teens and women of all ages through pregnancy and postpartum challenges. To bless their clients, our students assembled nine complete care bundles for moms and babies. One for each Fruit of the Spirit!
Each bundle included a play yard and a thoughtful collection of essential baby supplies, self-care items for moms, and handwritten encouragement cards.
Rooted in the Fruit of the Spirit
The chapel was centred on Galatians 5:22–23, which reminds us, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” Each student group was assigned one of these fruit, which became a focus of their activity. Students assembled bundles that were symbolically blessed with that Fruit of the Spirit, as a way of praying that mothers and babies would experience God’s presence through those qualities.
Pauline Klok, Pastoral Care Leader, challenged students to reflect on which Fruit of the Spirit come naturally to them and which ones might need more nurturing to grow. Later, as the play yards filled with baby essentials, she reminded students that they were pouring love, kindness, gentleness, and joy into others as a way of showing them Jesus.
Hearing from Our Guests
We were honoured to welcome Kendra from the Pregnancy Care Centre, who shared more about PCC’s mission and the powerful impact they are having in our city. Her words reminded students that the bundles they were creating would land in the hands of real women and babies, offering both hope and practical support in difficult seasons.
We also welcomed Gage as our guest speaker. He shared parts of his own faith journey and encouraged students to live out their faith authentically in their daily lives. His message was a powerful reminder that following Christ is not just about hearing the Word, but about actively doing it.
Faith in Action
As worship music filled the gym and scripture was read, students not only heard about God’s love but also practiced it. One by one, the play yards filled not only with baby essentials, like clothing, books, diapers, wipes, and bottles, but also with thoughtful gifts for moms: cozy socks, journals, and self-care items to remind them that they, too, are deeply loved and cared for. They assembled bundles with care, decorated cards with words of hope, and placed items into the play yards like gifts for a new baby shower. Each group’s Fruit of the Spirit poster was clipped onto the play yard, and together the nine bundles were arranged in a horseshoe shape at the front of the gym.
The chapel closed with prayer and a joyful song, “I’ve Got the Joy, Joy, Joy, Joy Down in My Heart,” reminding students that when God’s Spirit is alive within us, it naturally overflows into acts of service and compassion.
A Lasting Reminder
Alongside the care bundles, students also took part in a meaningful symbolic activity. Each group received several wooden slats and was invited to write reflections, Bible verses, prayers, or words of encouragement on them. These slats will be woven together into a single basket that will be displayed in the high school.
The basket will serve as a visual reminder of this chapel, the Fruit of the Spirit, and the ways our students are called to play their role in God’s story. Every time it is seen, it will point back to this moment of service and the commitment our community made to let God’s Spirit grow love, joy, peace, and kindness in us and through us.
Thank You
This chapel was more than just one morning’s work. In the weeks leading up to it, students and their families showed overwhelming generosity by ordering gifts through the QR code shared earlier this fall. Packages arrived daily—Amazon boxes stacked in the office, filled with baby bottles, blankets, socks, lotions, and other items for moms and babies. Every delivery was a reminder that our wider school community was invested in blessing these families through the Pregnancy Care Centre.
We are also deeply thankful for our staff, who not only organized the logistics of the day but also modeled generosity and enthusiasm. Their willingness to buy into this project set a powerful example for students of what it looks like to live out the Fruit of the Spirit in practical ways. And to our students who gave their time, energy, and hearts in service, we are grateful for the way you stepped up with joy and compassion to bless others. Together, we lived out what it means to play our role in God’s story, and we are grateful for every hand that helped make this chapel possible.
A Story Still Being Written
This chapel was more than a one-time event. It was a moment of formation, where 300 students practiced playing their role in God’s story. Their small acts of care will ripple outward into the lives of mothers and babies in our city, carrying with them the love of Christ.
As John 15:12 reminds us, “My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.” In this chapel, our students did just that.
