History

The McQueen school was purchased from Edmonton Public Schools in 2001 by the Edmonton Society for Christian Education (Edmonton Christian Schools). Most commonly referred to as just “McQueen” by the ECS community, it has served us well over the last 20 years! Division one, including the preschool, called McQueen home until the opening of the new West School in March 2021.

Future Plans

As demolition wraps up and the debris is hauled away our plans, for now, are to complete any backfill that’s needed, level the land and add topsoil, then grass seed will be added.  So far all the trees have been saved so the future green space will be a beautiful place for outdoor learning and play.

Stay tuned for future updates!

#EarthKeeping: Material Recovery Facility (MRF)

The waste produced from the demolition of the McQueen building has been sent to Edmonton’s only construction & demolition waste Material Recovery Facility (MRF). This engineered facility separates inbound wastes into recyclables, diverting tonnes of waste from our landfills! Learn more about the facility here.

With a capacity to receive over 100,000 metric tonnes annually, the MRF is helping to sort and recycle materials for use in the production of:

  • refuse-derived fuel,
  • composting, and
  • ultimately introducing materials back into the global recycling stream to be remanufactured and used in research.

30 minutes of GoPro footage!

A big thank you goes out to Doug at Pacific Blasting & Demolition who placed a GoPro on the cab of his excavator for us to capture the close-up footage of the demolition!
