The new West School was actively designed to include our core messages and throughlines. For example, a greenhouse, LED Lighting and water bottle fill stations to adhere to our Earth-Keeping mission in God’s story. The large, open Learning Commons and Community spaces were designed to foster a sense of community and togetherness. West School is also delighted to have 20,000 more square-feet which, once the renovations are complete, will bring preschool to grade 9 all under one roof.

Community-Building
The overall design at West School models the ECS “personality” with the engaging, colourful, and dynamic design is seen throughout. 20+ breakout rooms and community spaces allow students to bond, team-build, mentor, and participate in project-based learning. Moveable walls between grade-level classrooms also allow for classroom collaboration and help increase the sense of community. We work together in our classrooms, and in the world at large, in such a way that all can find meaning and a sense of belonging.
Beauty-Creating
At ECS every student has inherent value and a unique calling within God’s world. Bright and open classrooms, a large CTS Lab, maker spaces, a music room, and an art room arm students with the confidence, skills and strength of character to be the people God intended them to be in the world beyond our doors.
Creation-Enjoying, Order-Discovering
The unique and open design of the new West School encourages a new way of viewing and interacting with the world we live in. Future outdoor classrooms invite students into a transformational experience. The intentional design of the school helps students connect what they learn in school to their Christian faith.
The central portion of the first floor, the Learning Community, was designed to give a sense of connection between floors and is a space for worship and gatherings. This space also features a playful connection to Creation and natural elements with the soft-seating mimicking a mountain, flowing river, rocks, grass, and the tree of life.
Servant-Working
The multipurpose room, kitchen, and servery allow for community building, discipleship and serving others. Future plans for the multipurpose room include retractable seating and audio-visual components. Rental opportunities is a stewardly use of the space.
